Soviet Ukraine, 1932-1933. American engineer Michael Shamrock arrives in Kharkiv with his ten-year-old son Peter to help "build socialism". He falls in love with an actress Olga who has another admirer, the NKVD officer Vladimir. Under tragic circumstances Michael is killed, but his son is saved by a blind wandering bandura player (kobzar). With no other chance to survive in a foreign country, the boy becomes his guide. Their joint and full of dangers journey depicts the reality of one of the most dramatic moments in the history of Ukraine. The film features the life of kobzars, their last representatives, the freedom fighters, wandering from village to village and singing ancient traditional Ukrainian songs."Close your eyes, see by the heart", there arecorewordsin the film.
Oles Sanin
Born in 1972.Ukrainian film director, actor, cinematographer, producer, musician and sculptor.Distinguished Artist of Ukraine. He was awarded the Alexander Dovzhenko Ukrainian State Award. Graduated from the Ivan Karpenko-Kary National University of Theatre, Film and TV in Kyiv/in 1993 in the actor's class (tutor: Valentyna Zymniya) and finished the film directing course for feature films (tutor: Leonid Osyka) in 1998.He has passed internship in the Netherlands and the USA. 1994–2000: worked as a film director, director of photography, director of the production in the feature and documentary films' section of the Ukrainian branch of the international organization Internews Network (currently Internews).He has produced several dozen documentaries, was the director of photography of several documentary films and directed a few documentary and feature short films. Sanin plays bandura, torban, hurdy-gurdy and follows the Volhunia (north-west Ukraine) tradition of hurdy-gurdy players. Member of the Kyiv Kobzar Gild.
