Ukrainian literature process has actively responded to the Ukrainian events of 2013-2015, and at the time of Maidan many writers became cultural ambassadors of Ukraine abroad. Within the Lviv – Wroclaw European Capital of Culture project, literature component will be presented by two anthologies of contemporary Ukrainian poetry (Ukraine-Polish and Ukrainian-English versions), as well as by eight meeting with Ukrainian writers, including Yuri Andrukhovych, Andrij Bondar, Sofia Andrukhovych, Ziemowit Szczerek, Jurij Izdryk.
Scheduled within the Lviv Month project, the Ukrainian Poetry & Music Night NON STOP in Wroclaw will also be included into the general programme while the inauguration of the city of Wroclaw as the UNESCO World Book Capital. The Poetry & Music Night’s format originates from the tradition of night literary readings, launched in Lviv 11 years ago by Yuri Pokalchuk, a famous writer and translator. The action is one of the most popular and crowded events of the Lviv Publishers’ Forum.
In December 2015 Lviv joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network and became the fifteenth UNESCO City of Literature.
