UKRAINIAN CINEMA
Kino Nowe Horyzonty, 19a-21 Kazimierza Wielkiego St.
1-30/04/2016, 19:00
An extensive Ukrainian film programme to be held in April daily except Monday in the New Horizons Art House Cinema, aims to present Ukrainian cinematography as fully as possible and in its most diverse facets. The programme includes Ukrainian classics films, which are already a part of the world's cinematography treasury, represented by Oleksandr Dovzhenko and Sergei Parajanov.
But the main focus is on contemporary Ukrainian films, including the most ‘awarded’ Ukrainian film The Tribe directed by Myroslav Slaboshpytskiy, the winner of the Critics' Week Grand Prix at the 2014 Cannes Film Festivaland Discovery of the Year by the European Film Academy. Besides, the first Crimean-Tatar film Haytarma (Return) will be screened. The film is based on a true dramatic story of the forcible deportation of the Crimean Tatar people from their native land. We hope it will be presented by Akhtem Seitablaiev, the film director and lead actor. The programme also includes the Hamer/Gamer debut by Oleg Sentsov, who was sentenced to 20 years by a Russian military court for ‘terrorist attacks’ in Crimea.
Within the programme, the Babylon’13 cinematography community will present itsdocumentaries based on the Maidan events in Kyiv, then in Crimea. Currently they are shooting films in Eastern Ukraine. It’s a combination of social journalism and a documentary film.
